Jura Hike, Sunday, 9 September 2007
peaceful country side to Twannberg where we have lunch. Some of the more energetic hikers climb en route the Lothurm tower and are rewarded with more striking views. After lunch we start on our descent to Ligerz through the wild and romantic Twannberg canyon. The last distance is extremely steep downhill and paved road on top of it. Some hikers prefer to walk backwards or to hobble sideways. Quite funny to watch.

Ligerz is a small quaint village famous for its winegrowing. Somewhat exhausted we catch the boat to Biel, from where we travel in comfort and style, namely first class, back home. The hike starts in Biel, the weather is pleasant. Luckily, there is a funicular which makes scaling the Jura heights easy. Magglingen presents itself as a vast expanse of sports complexes making up the "Eidgenössische Hochschule für Sport Magglingen" which is also the national centre for top athletes. Magglingen also offers a spectacular view down on to the town of Biel, the lake, and beyond to the alps. We then continue through the
